It is my great honor and blessing to be the new director of the Alleluia Singers! I am a Springfield native and decided this past Spring that it was time to come home.
I'm a life- long Missouri Synod Lutheran and graduated from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. I have worked most of my adult life for the Missouri Synod in a variety of positions centering around all aspects of music ministry, educational ministries, and youth ministry in congregations in Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida. I received my Master's in Church Music from Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin.
For the past ten years I have been the music teacher for a charter school in North St. Louis, serving a demographic of children that many in the city have forgotten. I loved that challenging and rewarding work, but kept feeling the pull to move home and spend more time with my family, so I stepped out in faith and moved home in June.
I am now employed as an elementary school music teacher, dividing my time between Weaver and Pershing schools. I have three brothers, sisters- in- law, and several nieces and nephews here in Springfield that have been greatly supportive in my transition. My 90 year old step mother still lives in the home I grew up in and will probably outlive all of us!
I am enjoying making music with the talented, dedicated members of the Senior Choir and getting to know so many members of the Messiah family. Please consider joining with us on Wednesdays at 7:30 to sing praises to our most awesome Lord and Savior!
In His Name,
Sheryl Hansen
